From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 17): AFP still keeping tight watch on remaining rouge MNLF fighters
Despite inflicting serious losses on the rogue Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) fighters who attackedZamboanga City last September, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it is still keeping tight watch on its remnants to ensure that they will not make similar attacks in the future.
"The rogue MNLF elements was decimated quite considerably together with the number (of firearms) that were recovered or captured from them, and we see that they are a force that has been decimated of its capability and strength, but again as we have said let's not rest on these things and simply ignore them," said AFP spokesman Major Gen. Domingo Tutaan.
But despite keeping tight watch on the MNLF remnants, he expressed confidence that the latter cannot pull out attack similar to the Zamboanga siege in September 2013.
"We don't see any something like the Zamboanga incident in the future," the AFP spokesman assured.
Around 208 rogue MNLF fighters were killed, 294 surrendered and captured during the 21-dayZamboanga City siege last September.
A total of 324 firearms were also recovered.
