From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 17): AFP says ASG no longer has ideological pull
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has said that the Abu Sayyaf Group(ASG) no longer has any ideological pull due to their frequent kidnapping and criminal attacks against civilians.
This was revealed by AFP spokesperson Major Gen. Domingo Tutaan when asked on Friday whether the brigands still pose a significant security threat to the country.
"The ASG is (just) conducting kidnapping-for-ransom activities and this negated (whatever) ideological pull they have," he added.
Despite this, Tutaan said the AFP and other security stakeholders are working hard to end the threat they pose to peaceful civilians.
