From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 24): Rebels gun down ex-Cafgu man in Sorsogon
A former member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) was gunned by New People's Army (NPA) rebels while on his way home in Barangay Bagsangan, Irosin, Sorsogon, at about 9 a.m. Sunday.
A police report identified the victim as Melchor Fernandez, 49, married and resident of Barangay San Juan, Irosin.
The report said four young-looking men approached Fernandez and shot him on the head and body with a .45-caliber pistol.
It has been a practice of the NPA to send new recruits on a liquidation mission.
The report added that Fernandez came from a confrontation at the barangay hall about his complaint against the alleged threat of siblings Rosal and Bongbong Saverola on him.
After the confrontation, the victim asked permission from the village official concerned to go home and the incident took place.
The suspects reportedly got the belt bag of the victim before fleeing the crime scene.
Responding authorities brought Fernandez’s body to the funeral home.
