From Rappler (Feb 11): Bicol NPA heads arrested
Over the weekend, police apprehended two ranking leaders of the communist New People's Army (NPA) who are also facing various criminal cases.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 11, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said its field units in the Bicol and Southern Tagalog regions identified the two as George Villacort Geluz alias "Mario Dela Cruz, Ka Mulong, Rommel, or MC," and Silvestre Layones, also known as "Ka Eric or Dexter."
Geluz, identified in police and military records as secretary of the Bicol Regional Party Committee (BRPC) of the NPA had a standing warrant of arrest for charges of robbery in band with arson and double frustrated murder.
The PNP did not list down the alleged crimes for which Layones, who is head of the BRPC's UrbanCom, was being hunted for.
Geluz was apprehended by police forces at a police-military checkpoint in Gumaca, Quezon before midnight Saturday, February 8. Layones, meanwhile, was arrested in another police-military checkpoint along the Diversion Road in Naga City a few hours after.
