From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 15): AFP to resume offensive against against rebel remnants
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)has announced that it would resume its operations against rebel remnants as the 26-day SOMO (suspension of offensive military operations) would end 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday.
"We will continue our efforts (against them) as mandated in our operational guideline,"AFP spokesperson Major Gen. Domingo Tutaan said.
This means that the military can now hold or conduct tactical offensives against the rebels.
President Benigno S. Aquino III last Dec. 20 declared the SOMO to give time and opportunity to military personnel to observe the Christmas Season.
Tutaan said that they were still assessing the effects of the SOMO in its overall effects to the current military situation.
The AFP spokesperson also vehemently denied claims by the rebels that military violated the SOMO.
"(The SOMO) was adhered to by all units in the ground," he stressed.
