From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 19): Soldiers hunt suspects in death of 5 men, burning of equipment
Soldiers under the 4th Infantry Division launched pursuit operation against 40 heavily armed men responsible for the killing of five persons and the burning of heavy equipment at Kilometer Sitio 4-Marangan, Barangay Remedios, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur 9:30 am on Tuesday.
Capt. Severino David, deputy commander and spokesperson of the Eastern Mindanao Command, identified the victims as Buklit Cosan a former militia, Felipe Hadraque, a former soldiers and three other civilians namely Datu Mankurente, Remy Pulintan, and alias Jun-jun.
He said the perpetrators also razed a heavy equipment reportedly owned by the Shannalyne Corporation that was hired by Esperanza Local Government Unit for the land preparation in the planting of Acacia Mangium trees over a land awarded through the Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) granted to the Higaonons in the area.
David said soldiers backed up by military choppers are pursuing the rebels.
