Government troops and private security guards repulsed Tuesday morning what were said to be more than 100 rogue members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), thwarting an attack on a Del Monte packing plant in Tuluinan, North Cotabato.
One guard was wounded in the firefight, said Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesman of the Army's 6th Infantry Division.
Hermoso said soldiers from the 57th Infantry Battalion, led by Lt. Col. Noel dela Cruz, forced the BIFF elements to splinter and retreat in different directions.
Details of the attack were still sketchy as of this posting, but the military said the attackers came by foot from the adjacent town of Salipada K. Pendatum in Maguindanao.
