From InterAksyon (Sep 12): 5 wounded as troops pursuing NPA ambushed in Surigao del Sur
Five soldiers were wounded when troops pursuing a band of communist rebels were ambushed in San Miguel town, Surigao del Sur Wednesday, police said.
The Surigao del Sur provincial police office reported that a platoon of the 36th Infantry Army Battalion led by 2 Lieutenant Marian Victor Mancia was pursuing New People’s Army guerrillas they had encountered earlier when they were hit by a command-detonated landmine in Barangay Siagao.
Corporal Saham Baginda, Privates First Class Wilmer Martinez, Louie Baldivino and Renan Villarino were wounded by shrapnel.
PFC Tagbe was shot in the leg in the subsequent firefight.
